Additional Nothing But The Truth: A Documentary Novel Information

Patriotism or practical joke?

Harrison, NH -- Ninth-grade student Philip Malloy was suspended from school for singing along to The Star-Spangled Banner in his homeroom, causing what his teacher, Margaret Narwin, called "a disturbance." But was he standing up for his patriotic ideals, only to be squelched by the school system? Was Ms. Narwin simply trying to be a good teacher? Or could it all be just a misunderstanding gone bad -- very bad? What is the truth here? Can it ever be known?

Heroism, hoax, or mistake, what happened at Harrison High changes everything for everyone in ways no one -- least of all Philip -- could have ever predicted.

What Customers Say About Nothing But The Truth: A Documentary Novel:

He has a D in Miss Narwin's class, and according to the school handbook, that makes him ineligible. It provides subject matter for some intense discussions not only about truth, but also about the ethical behavior of many of the characters. NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH by Avi is a book that will have you questioning what is true at every turn.Philip Malloy is a 9th-grader who learns about truth the hard way. The far-reaching consequences will amaze readers and remind them that our actions impact the lives of others. It seems simple.

What begins as a harmless attempt to withhold information ends up changing an entire community.I use this novel in my 8th-grade classroom. He knows he has the support of his parents and is even hoping they will chip in to help him purchase some new shoes to start the season.Unfortunately, Philip is about to receive some bad news - his English grade. Given the script format, students are able to take parts and read it aloud. I would recommend this book for classroom use, book discussions, or general reading pleasure.Reviewed by: Sally Kruger, aka "Readingjunky" He can't even try out for the team. What happens next involves Philip's misguided attempt to fix the problem. Just find a way to get out of Miss Narwin's class, hopefully get a better grade with a different teacher, all before his parents and even his friends find out.

Tell the truth. It doesn't surprise him when the coach calls him into his office for a little talk. Instead, Philip ends up creating a situation that involves the teacher, the administration, his parents, a neighbor, the local newspaper, and eventually people from across the country.Written in script form, with bits and pieces from Philip's diary, as well as letters and memos written by staff members at the high school, NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH explores what happens if one person manipulates the truth. But what is the truth. The solution is simple. What he isn't expecting is the lecture he gets about his English grade.

An avid track runner, he is hoping to try out for the high school track team. Word of his excellent performance on the middle school team must have made its way to the high school coach.

It is a must-have for any readers library, although it is probably most suitable for the 13-and-up age range. This may take a reading a two for some tweens/teens to get the irony, but this satirical novel is well worth the read.

oh my god this book sucks balls in fact i burned my copy with a flamethrower

If this exact story happened in your town would you be shocked as well. What happened to everyone at that school and community was shocked and was amazed about how a school could do something like this, and how big this story spread. She explains what happened to this kid and his family.

The stories point of view is from a ninth grader Phillip Malloy, who is the main character. If you are an adult, and you have a young child around the ages of 10 to 14, then I strongly recommend you buy it or them. The book Nothing But the Truth is a great book for young readers (such as myself) to read.

The story line of the book tells you a day in the life of a high school student, and it puts you into Harrison High School and how a little problem turned into a nation wide crises.Throughout the book Avi, the author, explains how much a problem at a local no name high school became a worldwide story from newspapers to television. The story is very good and is well said, and if I was a parent with a young boy or girl I would this book for them in a heartbeat. During the book, Phillip gets into some trouble with his school administration and what happens is for you to read.

The story explains what a high school is like for kids and tells you how this kid got into trouble for nothing.

In the morning, he hummed to the beat of the national anthem while it was playing on the announcements and suspension fell upon him. Initially, Phillip, the main character, seemed to be a kid pretty much just like I am. The last thing parents want to hear about is a suspension, so reading am entire book about suspensions would not be a smart idea. I really connected with Phillip throughout the book, as he taught many lessons about standing for our rights and freedoms. The book was great, but it was slightly hard to follow. He loved sports, and was a very smart kid. I first picked up the novel and read the summary on the back. I do not think parents would really enjoy this book. I love how he still hums, even though he is told to stop.

One day, he got switched to a class with a teacher he did not really care for. Author Avi truly shows the strong beliefs of an average teenage kid in the wonderful novel Nothing but the Truth. Every couple of pages it switches to a new conversation and new characters. At the beginning of the book, it is hard to catch on and follow. We know the rules, and adults try to change them, but teens do not want to allow of that.

Being a teenager myself, I know exactly what he was thinking. I also think teachers would enjoy this, because they are able to see how the student thinks and reacts to a teacher's decision. Overall, Nothing but the Truth was a wonderful read. All high school students should enjoy this book because we all have these situations in life. Argument broke out between the students, family, and school. Even though it begins like this, I still recommend reading it. As a tenth grader, I believed the theme of the book pertained directly to me, so I knew it would be a great book to read.

Avi has written it as a story told by dialogue. As a strong believer in the freedoms, I take part on Phillip's side as he tries to make his point throughout the book. After a couple of pages in, I could not put the book down.Phillip is an everyday teenager who stands up for his rights and what he believes in. This is very appealing because I love the way Phillip stands up for his rights.
